Henry Dickens coffee morning serves up lots of ideas

Henry Dickens Community Centre in St Ann’s Road plays a vital role in North Kensington and its users were keen to take part in the Creating Stronger Communities conversations.

They invited us to their coffee morning on Friday 5 October where nine community centre users told us what they thought was needed to improve the local area.

They were keen to highlight that the community centre plays host to a number of activities but could be more widely used.

They felt that isolation was an issue especially among older residents which was something that was also raised at another workshop in the area.

They suggested tea parties and coffee mornings with the option of transport to and from the events to help build confidence. Another idea was a decorating scheme for older, more vulnerable residents to help improve their homes.

As more and more is done online these days, they felt local IT sessions to help less digitally-enabled older people do things online such as book appointments would be beneficial.

Health and wellbeing provision was also an area they thought could be improved with more green gyms in the areas.

Lots of community organisations are holding their own workshops during October but there are also a number of Council-led drop-in sessions which you can attend to tell us how to create a stronger North Kensington. You can find the dates here.
